Carrying on a Southern Tradition

Carrying on a Southern Tradition in Falkner MS.
Every winter a quilting frame was hung from the ceiling in a the spare room, where family and friends would pull a chair up, visit and quilt. The Juanita Hill (Grandmuddy) family of Falkner MS has carried on this heritage quilting tradition. Pictured is the Hill Family Hand Print and Signature Quilt of the 14 Hill siblings, spouses and parents:
We as a family decided to do the parent, siblings and spouses hand quilt. The hands of Juanita, Robert and Lowell Green were traced by family members. Christmas 2014 all the hands were traced at the annual Sisters and Brothers Christmas Gathering. January 2015 the project was started.

Alice Horton, Grace Robertson, Myra Mckee with Sherry Hill designing the tops, the work was begun in Sherry and Gerald’s basement. Many helped quilt in Grace’s pool house and some were quilted at Mt Zion Church. Eight have been completed with a few to go. It has been a labor of love and fun! The memories made while quilting these hand quilts will warm our bodies and souls on long cold winter nights, and will be a keepsake to pass on to the next generations.
