Cooper Hill School House Restoration

1: Foundation-leveled/secured

 Use existing concrete pillars and half blocks 

          Add beam underneath center of building and secure to piers       

2: Siding

      Existing siding to be removed and stored for recycling

         Replace damaged 2”x 6”x 10’  joists, window and door frames

      Apply rolled insulation-foil backed in walls and 4’x 8’x 8’ sheets in ceiling

      Apply 4’x 8’x 10’ OSB to exterior walls and vinyl/foil wrap

      Apply siding 1”x 8”x 16’ lap/pine or equal   

          Surface area approximately 1500 sq. ft. (2 Gables plus porch gable)                                                            

3. R 19 rolled Insulation -foil backed installed in walls and 4’x 8’x 8’ foil backed

       Attic area                                                                        

4. Flooring inside 1”x 4”x 12” pine t/g or equal – sand and rough finish

5. Install (6) 2’x 6’ Bronze metal windows @ $140.00 ea            

      Front Door to be selected (see image) 3’x 6/8 metal w/hardware

6. Re-Roof

      Remove and recycle old tin (possible use in Public restroom project)

      Install new galvanized tin roof   

         2’x 12’x 10’ corrugated or eq (approx 20 sheets)

           Replace damaged roof rafters as needed

           Decking/lath as required (24” centers)

7. Replace cornice, fascia boards and damaged boards on gable ends

       Stiffen and/or mend any structural members as needed

8. Electrical

       Rewiring as needed

       Install lights on porch

          Overhead light/fan in school house replaced

9. Add Front Porch/Stoop 6’ wide x 8’deep with steps and ramp

         Porch flooring treated decking

         Matching gable over porch – matching siding, tin top

The Falkner Ms Historical Museum Project plans continue:

Opportunity to be an active participant in the continuing of our Museum Facility and Park is offered to all who would volunteer their donations to support the restoration of the Cooper Hill School House located in the Heritage Park in Downtown Falkner, MS. Your pledges for materials, labor or donations would be greatly valued. This tired old building of ‘100 years plus’ is in obvious need of repair. The list below includes structural materials necessary for the restoration. All items are priced according to local market listing and could vary. Our intentions are to make this Museum restoration project available to all the Community, Alumni, and all history enthusiasts who would aid in the continued preservation of this famous landmark. The FMHM events for funding this project have been hindered by the Covid quarantine, but our plans to continue to promote the Museum Project hold fast as we offer to each of you the opportunity to contribute. Your ‘mark’ on the item will be your personal message for posterity! All donations will be acknowledged as opportunity will be given for each of you to actually participate in this construction. 1.  Galvanized tin 2’x 12’ need 24 sheets @ $20 ea.

2.  Lath 1”x 4”x 12’ need 40 boards @$4 ea.

       Replace damaged rafters 2”x 8”x 10’ as needed @ $12 ea

3.  Cornice and Fascia boards replaced – 144’ of 1”x 6”x 12’ need 12 @ $9 ea.

4.  Pine siding  – 1500 sq ft – lap siding 1”x 8”x 16” need 165 boards @ $20 ea

5.  Trim boards 1”x 6”x 12” pine need 400’  33 boards @ $9 ea

6.  Foil backed insulation batting need 150’ Roll $70 & 4”x 8’ sheets- 16 @ $9 ea.

7.  OSB to seal – 1200 sq, ft. @ $21 ea for 4’x 8’ per sheet need 40 sheets

8.  6 bronze windows 2’x 6’ @ $140.00 ea

        Replace damaged studs as needed 2”x 4”x 10” @ $5 ea

9.  1 Metal front door 3’ x 6/8 with hardware $175

10. Flooring inside 512 sq. ft. 1” x 4”x 12” pine t&g $8 ea need 180 @ $8.40 ea

11. Add front porch – approx cost of materials $2500 total to include:

        8’ x 6’ framed with front gable – matching schoolhouse

           48 sq ft flooring –  5 ¼ decking boards $13 ea

        2 posts 6”x 6”x 8’ @ $36 ea with 40’ of railing – treated

12. Electrical

        Replace existing wiring that does not meet code connect porch

        Gas line and meter NE corner of school house

13. AC/Heat unit- Outside East end – 3 ton package $5000 – Elec AC, Gas Heat
